Service Details

•    provide information to individuals, families, and communities about genetic inheritance
•    review test results and develop a communication plan to explain the results to patients and their family or carer
•    counsel an individual or family to promote informed choices and help them to adapt to the risk or condition they may have inherited
•    support patients to adjust to their diagnosis
•    take medical histories and the gathering of evidence (former test results, other clinical records), getting informed consent, and taking samples
•    perform any administrative and record keeping tasks required
•    attend relevant professional development training to maintain currency of practice.

Registration

Eligibility for membership of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia.

Education

Master of Genetic Counselling which is only offered at the University of Technology Sydney
